1. Open the IIS7 Manager.
2. Navigate your application from left hand tree.
3. Double click on “Handler Mappings” which is located on application’s home. this is the place where you can specify any kind of extension.
4. If you find the “Add Wild Card Script Map” option in Action panel then click on it otherwise click on “Add Script Map”.
5. There will be available a Popup Form with some input options. The first option is Request Path, you can enter any kind of extensions ( like *.asp, *.axd, * etc.)note: For wild card extension support we have to use only ( * ) asterisk sign.
6. The second option is Executable, you can enter the specific executable from DropDownList or you can browse from local hard drive.eg: here i am specify “[LocalDrive]\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_isapi.dll” You can just provide a name of this entry as a third option.
7. If you choose “Add Script Map” option then u can get another option below that form called “Request Restrictions”. From here you can choose “Mapping option” and “Verbs” or you can keep it with default settings.
8. After complete that wizard just restart the server.
   
   note: Sometimes “DefaultAppPool” does not work with this scenario. At that time you can choose “Classic .NET Application Pool” from Application Pool option. you can find this option window from “Basic Settings”. Whenever you transfer your application from IIS 6.0 to IIS 7.0 then you probably face that problem.
   
9. By default, handlers are not allowed to be overridden in the web.config file. They are locked in the IIS 7 configuration, you need to unlock the section to allow overriding. Here is an example using appcmd.exe to unlock this section. The Command Prompt was running as Administrator.

C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv>appcmd.exe unlock config /section:system.webserver/handlers

Here is an example of web.config file with managed type as the handler.

You can also configure the handler in IIS7 Manager, please take care of the precedence of the handlers in the list in IIS7 Manager.
